This series provides five two-hour session on a broad array of topics related to forages. From forage fertility, to interseeding rye, we have something for everyone with an interest in forages. Speakers from Penn State Extension, USDA ARS, and industry partners will be speaking during this series to provide participants with quality information and education.

Palmer amaranth is one of the most problematic weed species in the United States. Its biology and ability to become resistant to multiple classes of herbicides make this weed very difficult to control. We will discuss biology, identification methods, closely related species, and management tools for this newly found weed species in Southwest New York. In addition, we will discuss research being conducted at Cornell University on weeds like marestail and waterhemp.

Reproductive Management Online Courses

Course Summary

This course will provide students with fundamental knowledge to understand and manage an effective dairy reproductive program. Cornell University faculty and PRO-DAIRY staff will cover key topics, including Anatomy and Physiology, Synchronization Protocols, Breeding Strategies, A.I. Techniques, Monitoring Reproductive Programs, and Heifer Reproduction Management.

Two courses are offered, covering the same content. One will be taught exclusively in English and one will be taught exclusively in Spanish.

Empire Sheep Producers Association 2021 Annual Meeting will be held via Zoom on Monday March 15, 2021, beginning at 6 pm. All ESPA members, other sheep producers, and people affiliated with NYS's sheep industry are invited to attend. Speakers include Heather Pearce, a wool production and specialty markets consultant for the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI), and Dana Havas, Agriculture Team Leader, Cornell Cooperative Extension Cortland County. Heather will talk about wool marketing and managing your flock for quality wool; and will offer updates from ASI on services available to members and issues that the organization is addressing. Dana will speak about the new Cornell Program Work Team (PWT) for animal fiber, which is developing programming and educational opportunities, and identifying areas of research, that will improve the welfare of the NYS animal fiber community and its stakeholders. Thonney and tatiana Stanton from Cornell University sheep program will provide updates, as well.

FARM DISASTER PREPARATION CERTIFICATE TRAINING
CCE will host a Farm Disaster Preparation program to help farm owners plan for and manage disasters that might occur. This program focuses on practical pre-disaster education and preparedness, regarding farm equipment safety on the road, fire or structure collapse, storm and wind damage, criminal activity, farm chemical risks and biosecurity. Farms that complete the Farm Disaster Preparation training will receive a certificate to provide to their insurer and may be eligible for a credit or discount toward the farm's annual insurance premium. The value of the credit or discount will vary according to individual policies and policyholder circumstances but can be up to a 10 percent discount.

Parasites are the most important limiting factor in small ruminant flocks. Learn how to monitor, treat and prevent parasites in your flock. In this online class, we will discuss the lifecycle and biology of parasites affecting small ruminants and demonstrate how to perform fecal sampling to obtain egg counts. Fecal sampling is a simple procedure you can do at home to approximate the parasite load your sheep or goats are carrying.
