Flock Talks: Brooding and Rearing Basics: Backyard Laying Hens for Beginners

Are you thinking of raising poultry or waterfowl? Are you new to raising new to poultry? Cornell Cooperative Extension has you covered. This 3 session webinar and discussion series will teach you how to select, house, and care for small flocks of poultry.

This month's talk is Brooding and Rearing Basics: Backyard Laying Hens for Beginners. This course will review the realities and best practices of keeping a small flock on your farm, homestead, or back yard. Class instructor, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County Livestock Educator Jason Detzel, has many years of chicken-raising experience with both laying hens and meat breeds of all kinds.

Pre-registration for these discussions is required, but there is no fee to register. To register, click one of the links below. There are two discussion group opportunities, which will be the same presentation:

Upcoming Brooding and Rearing Basics Courses:
Meat Birds - April 28th - Speaker Lynn Bliven

These classes are part of a new discussion series from Cornell Cooperative Extension's Livestock Program Work Team, titled "Cornell Cooperative Extension Flock Talks". Join CCE specialists, Cornell faculty, and industry experts as they discuss timely poultry topics inspired by community requests, ranging from beginning to advanced content. Meetings will be hosted on the 4th Wednesday of every month. A short presentation will be shared, followed by ample time for questions and discussion.
