Join the NWNY Team for a pasture walk at Valley View Devons, the farm of Phil Race and Sharon Pierce. They raise Devon cattle, pastured pigs and laying hens on rotationally grazed pasture and have worked closely with JoBeth Bellanca with NRCS for farm improvement cost share opportunities. Registration is required by September 7th.

The Southern Tier Sheep and Wool Grower's annual wool pool will be Friday, September 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Otsego County Fair Grounds, Morris, NY. Only clean white wool, both good clean and off-sorts/short wool, will be accepted.

This sale will consist of 9 lots consisting of 300 head of USDA graded beef cattle as well as a set of exposed Angus Heifers. Cattle have been vaccinated using modified live vaccines for IBR, BRSV, PI3, BVD, and clostridia, and pasteurella, and have been de-wormed.

Hemdale Farms is proud to host a farm tour focusing on cow comfort and transition cow facilities as it relates to a NY Farm Viability Institute grant project over the last two years. CCE Regional Dairy Specialists will go over results and benchmarks from assessments of these areas from all 15 farms involved in the study, and Hemdale will share areas they've worked to improve related to fresh and transition cow comfort, as well as give a farm tour and answer questions about their robotic  operation. 

The tour is FREE to all participants, but registration is required.

The Farm Disaster Preparation program will help farm owners plan for and manage disasters that might occur.  This program focuses on practical pre-disaster education and preparedness, regarding farm equipment safety on the road, fire or structure collapse, storm and wind damage, criminal activity, farm chemical risks and biosecurity.  Farms that complete the Farm Disaster Preparation training will receive a certificate to provide to their insurer and may be eligible for a credit or discount toward the farm's annual insurance premium.  The value of the credit or discount will vary according to individual policies and policyholder circumstances but can be up to a 10 percent discount.
