Cornell Cooperative Extension's Southwest New York Dairy, Livestock & Field Crops Program (SWNYDLFC) invites the region's corn silage producers to their 2021 Corn Silage Pre-Harvest Meetings. These are scheduled for Wednesday, September 1st, 2021 from 10am - 12noon in Springville and 2pm - 4pm in Arkport. Join Cornell PRO-DAIRY Forage Specialist, Joe Lawrence, to discuss pre-harvest considerations for corn silage production. Topics that will be covered in this discussion style meeting will include harvest season safety, the importance of whole plant dry matter, chopper set-up for kernel processing and particle size, ensiling considerations and tips for success, molds and toxins, agronomics, and more depending on attendee interest.
These meetings will be held on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021 at two locations. From 10am - 12noon at Blesy Farms, LLC in Springville, NY (7517 Henrietta Road) and 2pm - 4pm at Lismore Dairy in Arkport, NY (8545 State Route 961F). These meetings are free to attend. Registration is required by August 31st to help prepare materials and to contact participants in the unlikely event of cancellation or location change. Perfect for beginners or experienced users needing a refresher. We'll cover safety features and basic maintenance of the modern saw and learn kickback prevention techniques. Participants will be able to try on various PPE and learn ergonomic practices. Interested participants will learn to safely start up, throttle up, and turn off a saw. You may bring our own saw if you choose, there will be no cutting in this class.

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension for a morning of classroom learning, hands-on FAMACHA and 5 Point Check practice, and a pasture walk at Alfred State College's teaching farm to learn about putting IPM to work on pasture using evasive grazing techniques. An exam will be provided, and students passing the exam will receive program certification, including a FAMACHA Card.
