In this workshop, led by Josh Putman, Field Crops Specialist with Cornell Cooperative Extension's Southwest NY Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Regional Team, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about soil sampling. Topics to be covered include why it's important to sample soils, how to take a soil sample, the difference between a pH test and a full analysis soil sample, and how to read a soil sample report. We'll also have a hands-on portion for this workshop that will include a demonstration on using the Cornell pH Test Kit, practice examples on how to determine fertilizer and lime application rates based on your sample report, and how to determine your soil type.

While conventional markets for livestock have cooled as large processors slow down production or temporarily close, NY farms are faced with a unique opportunity to market meat directly to the consumer. This workshop is designed to equip the producer with clear and simple steps towards making bulk meat sales, such as quarters, halves, and mixed-cut bundles. We'll cover "how to" tips to help you get started quickly. Join Ag. SPRING 2020 POULTRY MANAGEMENT SERIES: SMALL FLOCKS FOR BEGINNERS

Cornell Cooperative Extension's Southwest New York Dairy, Livestock, and Field Crops Program (SWNYDLFC) is committed to continuing to provide educational opportunities to farmers in our region as they work daily to provide safe and abundant food for consumers. Poultry can be a low-cost enterprise for farms, which provides fresh eggs and meat for families and communities. SWNYDLFC is excited to announce that Amy Barkley, the team's Livestock and Beginning Farm Specialist, will be hosting a 4-part virtual classroom series focused on the management of small poultry flocks.

Grazing & Forage Season Extension Webinar Series: Summer Annuals

This includes species-specific information, planting times, management, feed considerations, and associated environmental benefits.
