Did you know that farmers are more likely than the general population to die by suicide?

NY FarmNet is collaborating with county Cornell Cooperative Extension offices this fall to offer free, full day, in person Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses. Farmers, agribusiness workers, and anyone who interacts with the agricultural community in New York is encouraged to attend. Trainings run from 8am to 5pm, and lunch will be provided from a local eatery with a one hour break. 

Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults. You'll build skills and confidence you need to reach out and provide initial support to those who are struggling. You'll also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.

This event brings together livestock farmers and the community through a pop-up farmer's market, tasting of locally sourced meats, and an educational program about buying bulk meat. We are currently looking for participating farmers to set up booths and donate meats for the tasting!

Labor Road Show VI is hosted by New York's Ag Workforce Development Council (AWDC). The event is open to farmers, farm employees and agricultural industry representatives who work with farms to improve farm human resource management.

Advancements in technology in the past years made AMS a reliable machine that can successfully harvest milk. However, as with any other system, management is key to guaranteeing productivity and efficiency. In AMS, cow behavior is a big piece of the puzzle. Researchers have been studying how early life nutrition, environment, and human-animal interaction can affect cow behavior and how cows with different personalities perform in AMS.

The CCE South Central NY Dairy and Field Crops Team is pleased to offer Farm Accounting with QuickBooks Online in 2023. By combining the theory and practice of farm business accounting into a single class, this class empowers students to set up and maintain a record keeping system that is accurate, efficient, and useful. The course is delivered in an online format, providing self-paced learning from the comfort of home.

Graziers of all types of livestock are invited to these discussion-based meetings. We will share a pot of soup while watching a presentation on how the grazing animal's rumen works. Discussions will follow on member's grazing operations; their strengths and weaknesses. This will help set up topics for future meetings. These meetings are free to attend. Donations of cash or soup ingredients would be appreciated.
