March 20, 2018The Smith Family transitioned their dairy to organic production over the past three years and are now shipping to Organic Valley Coop. In addition to the transition to organic they added two Lely Robotic milkers to do the milking on their 130 cow farm. The Smiths have relied on a well-managed diversified farm to remain sustainable. In addition to their dairy they operate a long running strawberry business in the summer.
We will begin with a farm tour including the paddocks designed by Kirk Smith to make grazing and robots compatible. At lunch the Smith Family will relate their experience of transitioning during challenging times.
