The Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza virus remains a concern for New York farmers. 

New York Farm Bureau (NYFB) and Northeast Dairy Producers Association (NEDPA) are hosting a special webinar at 3:00 PM EST July 10 in collaboration with Cornell CALS PRO-DAIRY. Panelists will feature experts from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, and American Association of Bovine Practitioners. The goal is to provide current and recommendations to help guide management on the farm.

Join us to learn about sustainable poultry! Cornell Extension poultry specialist Amy Barkley will guide us in selecting the right breeds, establishing ecologically beneficial production, troubleshooting pests & diseases, and processing. We will tour a 5A-certified on-farm processing center and watch a demonstration. Everyone who identifies as a woman in agriculture is welcome to this free learning circle. Lunch is provided, so please register in advance! This event will allow participants to connect with fellow land stewards and producers and support everyone in learning together. Join us for a free field day to explore broiler production, processing, and finances. Zack and Annie Metzger will be our hosts. They have run this 200 year-old small diversified farm for 8 years. They process their poultry in a 20C kitchen, where they produce value-added products like sausage and dehydrated chicken feet.

They raise slow-growth organic broilers on their diversified farm in large flocks on woodland pasture. Their birds are processed into whole birds, parts, and chicken sausage.

The Chautauqua County Office of Emergency Services and Chautauqua County Farm Bureau cooperatively applied for and have recently been selected to receive specialized rescue training and equipment needed to respond to a grain entrapment incident in Chautauqua County and nearby areas. The new equipment will be awarded and demonstrated at this safety and rescue program. Farm owners and their families, farm employees, grain handlers, fire department personnel, and first responders are welcome to participate in a grain bin rescue training, which will also include safety tips working with grain bins.To help plan for meeting materials and food, please RSVP by August 20th, by contacting Lisa Kempisty, Extension Educator, at 716-664-9502 Ext 203 or by email: ljk4@cornell.edu.
