HLW Acres Poultry Program

May 23, 2015

This year?s main speaker will be Craig Haney, livestock manager at Stone Barns Center in Pocantico Hills, Westchester, NY. Craig oversees 80 acres in a pasture rotation that includes sheep, geese, turkeys, meat and laying chickens, honeybees, beef and pork. Craig?s presentation will cover turkeys from day-old to the Thanksgiving Day table with particular attention to brooding, pasture rotation, housing/roosting, disease, feeds, and harvesting. He will also give an overview of experiences related to broiler and egg production. Throughout his career Craig has combined livestock expertise with a love of teaching, and brings an advanced understanding of food systems to professionals and the public alike. In addition to teaching programs at Stone Barns Center, Craig has also presented at the American Grassfed Association, Cornell University, Green Thumbs and Just Foods, the Animal Welfare Institute, the Northeast Organic Farming Association, and a host of others.

After lunch, our presenter will be Dr. Jarra Jagne from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Health Diagnostic Center. Dr. Jagne is a veterinarian specializing in poultry and game birds and will speak about poultry health and diseases. We also have plans to conduct a necropsy demonstration with Dr. Jagne showing what you may look for in a sick or lost bird.

2025 Cornell Food Beverage & Animal Feed Manufacturer Survey

December 19, 2025

Industry and Educational Advocates for New York State's Food, Beverage, and Animal Feed Manufacturing industries:

As you know, NYS has a diverse food and beverage manufacturing industry, in both the types of industries that exist and the wide distribution of firms by scale. Many manufacturing firms have strong backward linkages to agricultural production sectors in the state that support both farm-level and downstream food industry firms and consumers. In collaboration with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, a team from Cornell University's Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management has recently rolled out the 2025 New York State Food, Beverage, and Animal Feed Manufacturer Survey. The industry will benefit from an updated assessment of the industry that informs private and public investments and opportunities to support firm growth and improved profitability.
