Cortland Area Corn Silage Workshop and Bunk Mini-Lab

September 3, 2014

Cornell Cooperative Extension will be offering a Corn Silage Harvest Meeting and Bunk Mini-Lab for farmers in the Cortland area on September 3, 2014 from 1-3 pm. The meeting will focus on harvesting at the proper window, the stage of this year's crop, packing and chop length, and will also have discussion on BMR vs conventional corn varieties.
The second part of the meeting will be hands-on at the bunk and participants will have the opportunity to assess bunk management, monitor bunk temperatures and proper processing of corn silage.
The max 2-hour meeting will be held at East River Dairy just off Route 13 in Cortland. Attendees are encouraged to bring 3-4 stalks of their own corn fields to be chipped and evaluated for dry matter and stage of maturity.
The event is free, but RSVP's are requested for light refreshments. Please call Sharon VanDeuson at 753-5078 to RSVP, and for more information call Janice Degni at 753-5215 or Betsy Hicks at 753-5077.
