February 9 - February 11, 2021

Getting Your Genetics Right: Converting Performance Records Into Decision-Making Tools

This live Zoom series will include interactive break-out sessions providing the opportunity to use real-world data to practice application of Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) and other tools for genetic selection for economically important traits including parasite resistance. Each live Zoom session builds on the previous night. To obtain maximum benefit from the workshop, participants should attend all 3 nights.

Night 1: Brief review of project, pre-recorded video content and introduction to use of Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs).

Night 2: Break-out groups working through real-world flock data and Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs).

Night 3: Continued break-out groups and genetic selection exercise; Basics of multi-trait selection with emphasis on grazing animals.

If you cannot make the workshop on February 19th - 21st, another duplicate workshop will be offered from January 12th - 14th.

PRE-REGISTRATION (FREE) IS REQUIRED AS SPACE IS LIMITED. A LINK TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 3-NIGHT LIVE ZOOM SESSIONS WILL BE EMAILED ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE DATE.

NY Small Farms Summit 2025: Stronger Together

December 5, 2025
Alfred, NY

We hope you will join us on December 5th for the 2025 New York Small Farms Summit! This is an opportunity to meet other farmers and ag supporters, learn about research and education projects, and set priorities for future efforts to grow small farm success.

At the Allegany County site, we will focus on giving trees a chance and how trees build resiliency on small farms. Whether attracted to fruit, nuts, vegetables, fodder or shade, trees can be an integral part of a successful farming system. Join us as we explore the opportunities for resiliency that come from adding tree crops or managing wooded areas of your farm for agroforestry or silvopasture systems.
