Brewery and Cidery Workshop (2 day event)

May 9 - May 10, 2014


Day 1: Business and Legal Issues

This workshop is meant to give you an overview of the information and tools you will need to start a new Farm Brewery or Cidery business. Come learn about the NYS Farm Brewery law, craft beverage marketing, brewing and cider equipment, tax implications, business planning, local zoning issues, alternative funding strategies, financing a brewery/cidery and more.

There is will also be a trade show with representatives from companies selling items related to beer and cider production and growing hops, barley and cider apples and other relevant organizations.

Workshop: 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. (includes a light breakfast & lunch)
Social hour: 4:45 - 6:00 p.m. (includes tastings of local craft beers and cider)
Cost: $65 individually and $55 for each additional registrant

Day 2: Production Issues

This workshop will focus on production issues and will include classroom sessions and field trips. Classroom sessions will include a brewing track (focusing on hops and barley) and cidery track (focusing on apples and cider).

There are two options for the field trip. Brewers will go to Climbing Bines Hops Farm, and a nearby barley field. Cider makers will visit a local cidery and apple orchard.

Workshop/Classroom sessions: 8:30 a.m.- 11:00 a.m.
Field trip (optional): 11:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Cost: *$30 for classroom sessions (includes a continental breakfast) $30 for field trip (includes a bagged lunch)

* There is a $5 discount for the classroom sessions if you are a also registered for Day 1
