Carey Farm, Groton (Tompkins County) - With Cornell Cooperative Extension educators Fay Benson & Mary Kate MacKenzie.  Come see how Dan and Eric Carey graze nearly 300 dairy cows on 200 pasture acres in Groton, NY. Fay will discuss controlling soil compaction in grazing systems and present compaction data collected from the Carey's pastures for the past 3 years. 

Mary Kate will share how the Cornell Dairy Farm Business Summary benefits grazing dairies and present an example illustrating how the Carey's decision to pave laneways has influenced profitability on the farm.  

Join the South Central NY Dairy and Field Crops Team for a series of pasture walks hosted by dairy farms throughout our region. Learn strategies for managing dairy cattle on pasture from experienced graziers and grazing educators. Be prepared for walking and standing outdoors. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear, dress for the weather, and bring your own water bottle and snacks.
