QuickBooks for Farmers and Growers

March 27 - April 17, 2019

QuickBooks is the most used bookkeeping software for small businesses. With QuickBooks you can save time recording transactions and know where you stand financially every day. Easily compare to prior periods, budgets, and industry statistics. It even saves time gathering information for your tax return.

Learn how to set up and use QuickBooks in your farm or agricultural business. This 4-part series will cover:
  • Basic accounting concepts
  • Setting up a customized Chart of Accounts
  • Recording sales revenues
  • Recording and paying for expenses
  • Reconciling accounts
  • Creating and analyzing financial statements
  • Record keeping for risk management
All in a small group setting with other farmers, allowing plenty of time for interaction and questions. Laptops with Quickbooks 2018 will be provided if you do not have one. This class uses the desktop version for PC computers.

Cost: $95 for the series (up to 2 individuals per farm may attend)
Veterans FREE courtesy of a grant from M&T Bank

Farmers who complete the course are eligible to receive a partial reimbursement, up to $100, for the purchase of QuickBooks software to be used in their farm business.

NY Small Farms Summit 2025: Stronger Together

December 5, 2025
Alfred, NY

We hope you will join us on December 5th for the 2025 New York Small Farms Summit! This is an opportunity to meet other farmers and ag supporters, learn about research and education projects, and set priorities for future efforts to grow small farm success.

At the Allegany County site, we will focus on giving trees a chance and how trees build resiliency on small farms. Whether attracted to fruit, nuts, vegetables, fodder or shade, trees can be an integral part of a successful farming system. Join us as we explore the opportunities for resiliency that come from adding tree crops or managing wooded areas of your farm for agroforestry or silvopasture systems.
