NYSDEC How to Get Certified Course



This is a 2 hour course instructed by the NYSDEC in preparation for the pesticide applicator test that will be given the following week at the same location on March 10, 2026 at 10 am. Attendees will be able to register for the test by attending this course. A notary will be on-site for notarization of documents.

What do I need to bring to sign up for an exam? 

  • valid NYS id card
  • check or money order made to the NYSDEC for $100.00

How do I purchase books? 

A CORE and category manual need to be purchased to study from and take the exams. These can be purchased through the Cornell Bookstore https://www.cornellstore.com/b.... Private categories include:

How do I know if I am eligible to take an exam? 

Applicants must be 17 years of age or older, and:

  • have at least one year of full-time experience within the last three years in the use of pesticides in the category or categories that the individual is seeking certification; or 
  • have completed a comprehensive 30-hour training course, approved by the department; or 
  • have received an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university which covers the topics listed in Section 325.18, and related categories in Sections 325.16 or 325.17; or 
  • have one year of verifiable experience as a commercial applicator in a corresponding commercial category; or 
  • certification in another state that New York has reciprocity (CT, IN, NJ, OH, PA, RI, VT)

Quality Wool Workshop

Hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension Allegany County in collaboration with Allegany Fresh Transport, Northeast Fiber Exchange (NEFX), Southern Tier Fiber Arts Guild, and Crooked Lane Farm. The workshop will be held at the Union University Church Community Center in Alfred, NY on Saturday, March 21st from 10 AM to 4 PM.
