Insights into the Cow/Calf Enterprise - January 21

Cornell Cooperative Extension's Livestock Educators have recently formed the Livestock Program Work Team and are pleased to announce the first of many on line learning opportunities available to livestock producers across the state. Area beef producers are encouraged to register for Insights into the Cow/Calf Enterprise scheduled for Thursday January 21, 2021 from 7 to 8pm. Topics slated for discussion include the key beef business benchmarks cow/calf producers can monitor and use for decision making. Additionally, a discussion on the importance of herd vaccination protocols and programs and the relationship to a producers' bottom line. Guest speakers include Nicole Tommell, Ag Business Management Specialist with C.C.E. CNY Dairy, Livestock and Field Crop Team, and Rob Lynch, DVM, Herd Health & Management Specialist, Cornell University PRO-DAIRY. This program is free of charge and is brought to you by the Cornell Cooperative Extension Livestock Program Work Team.

This workshop series will feature in-depth presentation and discussion led by Dr. Padraig French who is the Head of Livestock Systems and the Dairy Enterprise Leader at Teagasc (the Irish version of USDA). Dr. French will focus on the critical success factors for Irish dairy, which include pasture utilization, labor efficiency and managing for seasonal calving. The discussion will focus on ways that U.S. dairy farmers can use some of the Irish dairy techniques to become more profitable with grass farming.
